Startup Hubs Around the World Melbourne
Startup Hubs Around the World Melbourne Smaller than its counterpart Sydney, Melbourne, Australia has a thriving and growing entrepreneurial community that has a huge impact on the nationâs startup market. While they are ranked near the bottom of most startup market lists, they are actively working to improve their standing and attract both entrepreneurs and investors. © Shutterstock.com | Gordon BellAs we discover what advantages Melbourne has over other startup cities, weâll explore 1) the location, 2) the tax incentives, 3) legal incentives, 4) investors, 5) local resources, 6) specialization of the area, and 7) startups to watch.LOCATIONGeographical BenefitsTucked along the southeast coast of Australia, Melbourne is Victoriaâs capital city. Its location on the mouth of the bay provides a unique mix of geography and offers residents a range of activities. As a port city, Melbourne has access to the world through the ocean, while the four airports connect the country to the rest of the world quickly and easily.Perhaps in part due to the remote nature of the city, Melbourne has been a little-known secret on the continent of Australia. Its geography has helped to shelter the cityâs inhabitants from the steady onslaught of foreign visitors Melbourne tends to look inward for strength and resolve. This characteristic, while difficult to unde rstand at first, is one of the most useful benefits the city possesses. Self-resilience and determination can both be an important trait for a company to establish. The central business district of the city is home to startup incubators and co-sharing spaces that help to bolster the startup market in the city. With dedicated workspace and living space, entrepreneurs are free to innovate and design without having to worry about finding safe and appropriate facilities.A beach town, Melbourne offers sweeping coastlines for the entrepreneur to enjoy and appreciate, providing startups with a place to unwind and relax after a long day of coding or developing. The business district has skyscrapers and office buildings that house thousands of companies in the economic hub, acting as a reminder of the potential for growth.Advantages of choosing the cityCompared to startup markets around the world, Melbourne is a relatively small city. With a population of about 4 million people, the city is l arge enough to provide a range of resources, yet small enough to feel manageable. A high standard of living makes the Melbourne scene attractive to entrepreneurs â" there are a range of amenities to take advantage of and the environment of the city is lively and welcoming. With four airports spread through the city, and a network of highways and roads that connects Melbourne to other cities, the infrastructure of the city is solid and useable. Public transportation is available through taxis, water taxis, trams and buses. The entrepreneur who wishes to give their pitch to others will have ample methods of transport to choose from.Cultural opportunities abound, as well as a wealth of outdoor activities. Green spaces (parks and gardens) are scattered throughout the city. There is no shortage of things to do in Melbourne, and the temperate climate makes it possible to use the outdoors on a regular basis.TAX INCENTIVESThe Australian government has developed a series of tax incentives th at provide entrepreneurs with a number of RD tax credits as assistance. Eligible projects are able to apply annually for the credits, and the Australian government business website has information regarding the various credits that a company may be eligible for.Considered a broad based entitlement program, the RD tax credits can be used by innovators in any industry, and by companies of any size. Innovation eligible for the tax credits includes the creation of new products, as well as creating new processes or services. Consulting with a tax professional will enable a company to determine if their companyâs products or services are eligible to take advantage of this tax credit.Recent changes to the tax laws have made it difficult to use share options as a âlureâ to attract new talent to a company. Without the ability to effectively use these lures, it is cost prohibitive for a company to offer share options to new employees. These lures are an important method of offering futu re growth and potential profit sharing by a cash strapped company. Without the use of these, companies cannot compete with other cities and companies around the world in their effort to attract top talent.LEGAL INCENTIVESThe Australian government has established a website to streamline the process of opening a business in Australia. Startups in Melbourne have taken it a step further by establishing themselves as authorities in the legalities of entrepreneurship. With the establishment of Startup:Melbourne, students are given the opportunity to apply for initial funding or continue working through the stages of growth until they have mastered their products.Putting the mentoring programs already established in Melbourne to work is a smart and effective method of finding out the legal incentives to starting a company. By using anotherâs experience as a guide, entrepreneurs can navigate the waters of the unknown safely. To ensure that the legal ramifications of establishing a busines s in Melbourne are properly taken care of, entrepreneurs should seek the advice of legal counsel. The legal system in Melbourne is relatively easy to navigate, so startups can save money by only using legal counsel for ensuring paperwork is filed correctly, etc.The creation of further legal incentives would add additional reasons for startups to select Melbourne as their hub.INVESTORSMelbourne faces a disadvantage over Sydney in size as well as the number of available investors. Recent years have seen an influx in investors and venture capital firms that are willing to take a chance on the startups. Some of the new investment opportunities include:Rampersand: Backed with a $6 million investment fund, Rampersand is geared towards the early stage entrepreneurs who desire to have funds. Specializing in Australian based startups.Adventure Capital: Focusing on the digital and online systems, Adventure Capital is an early stage funding group that has recently begun to specialize in the st artup marketplace.Scale Scale: An entrepreneurship that focuses on women, Scale Scale is an angel investor network that is inspired by the US startup, Golden Seeds.Once a company has moved beyond the angel investor stage, incubator firms are available for additional funding.Angel Cube: $20,000 seed funding available for startup teams that are moving the company to the next level. In addition to funding, mentoring is available by some of Melbourneâs leading entrepreneurs. While this list of investors is far from exhaustive, these are some of the top investors in the city. The lack of available funding is one of the disadvantages to Melbourneâs startup marketplace. Startup leaders in Melbourneâs startup ecosystem are actively pursuing investors and encouraging other cities to follow suit.LOCAL RESOURCESMelbourne is the cultural, arts and fashion capital of Australia. This vibrant city is bursting with creativity â" an environment that breeds success in entrepreneurship and innov ation. Home to a collection of great colleges and universities, the city attracts creative individuals and is primed to capitalize on this artistic bent. With just over 4 million people in the city, Melbourne is a big city that likes to act like a small town. Relationships are a high priority and there needs to be trust between individuals before any type of dealing can be accomplished. This small town ideal of doing business over a cup of coffee is a strength that is not easily found in other cities. Startups are typically relational in the beginning â" with limited experience and history; entrepreneurs are often banking on the strength of a personal relationship to start a business relationship with a customer. Establishing in a city that values that type of interpersonal dealing predisposes the company to be able to âfitâ into the cityâs mold.Startup hubs within the city are already in place, making it easy for entrepreneurs to find co-sharing space. Convenient and accessib le health care and other services that are important to employees and their families are all fully established and maintained, providing the additional resources that make an area attractive to new residents.A diverse marketplace offers opportunity for creativity and cooperation â" whether it is in co-sharing a space or in working towards a new and innovative solution â" that is rarely found in the world. The strong business community would benefit from the forward thinking of innovative individuals or teams, and would encourage the conservative businesses to focus on branding. By focusing on building a relationship, businesses are taking their networking abilities to a whole new level. When entrepreneurs take the time to develop strong relationships before establishing a business connection, the business in Melbourne understands that it is as much about the relationship as the presentation. This can be a weakness in the startup marketplace where the presentation is often the only opportunity potential customers and investors can find out about the company. Finding a balance between the relationship and the business brand can be challenging, but must be mastered if the company is to succeed. SPECIALIZATIONTraditionally the manufacturing and innovation center of the country, Melbourne is accustomed to leading the way in the race to success. One area where they can continue to shine is the development of new and improved systems for manufacturing. An example of this type of specialization is the Axiflux company. Axiflux is an engineering, research and development company that re-designed the small motor. With improved speed controls and more cost effective technology, the company has improved the product and adapted it to better suit the needs of the modern day. In addition, improved processing and manufacturing helps Melbourne maintain its position as a development hub. By continuing to promote this type of innovation and problem solving, Melbourne has the opp ortunity to develop their niche in the startup marketplace.Another key specialization area is the development of service assistance. Whether it is simply to gather emails together in an easy to read format, or offering users an easy to navigate tool for finding the right repairman, the growing market for innovative apps and tools is an important specialization area. There is no clear indication the direction the startup markets in Melbourne will take. At this stage in the cityâs development, there isnât a specific leader who has a taken charge of the startup ecosystem, and it may cause the latter stages to progress more slowlyInnovative solutions that relate to the already existing markets in Melbourne should be some of the first areas that develop startups. Pushing the envelope of what is possible and probable, technology-wise, is part of the creative and innovative efforts that the city already embraces. Extending this philosophy into the startup market not only shows a commitm ent to innovation but also to the city itself.STARTUPS TO WATCHThe Fetch: Designed to be a source of news and information for local companies, The Fetch allows users to sign up for weekly digest emails. Attempting to compete with larger, more organized and more financially stable markets around the world can prove difficult as a city has to prove its worthiness to entrepreneurs. A startup city comparison chart listed Melbourne at 24th overall, right behind their neighbor, Sydney. To remain competitive on the global scale, Melb ourne needs to address the growing need for funding in the later stages, establish better legal incentives and improve the benefits to both entrepreneurs and investors.

Forgiveness Does Not Change the Past, But it Does Enlarge...
ââ¬Å"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.â⬠(Matthew 6: 14-15) This is a verse that I have grown up with and been taught all throughout my years of attending Catholic school. One of the major life lessons taught in Catholic school was to forgive one another and follow Jesusââ¬â¢ word. This verse is an example of the key to forgiveness; if you donââ¬â¢t forgive you wonââ¬â¢t be forgiven. What is forgiveness? Forgiveness to me is getting over a mistake from the past and coming to terms with that individual. Is forgiveness a process? I think forgiveness can be a very long process or can be a short one depending on whatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Look back on this time and recognize when you were forgiven and how you felt. The third step is seeking the person and explaining why you want forgiveness. During this step you want to be sincere, express how you truly feel and do your best to let the other person accept your forgiveness. The last step after you have received forgiveness is remembering why you asked for forgiveness and what courage it took for you to get that far. You want to remember the good memories and forget that bad. Forgetting the bad enables you to move past your problems and makes you have a better relationship with that person. Although forgiveness may seem like an easy process, it isnââ¬â¢t always as easy as it might seem. Forgiving can be an extremely hard and long process. For example, the parents of my friend who was killed by a drunk driver had such a hard time forgiving her killer. It was a something they didnââ¬â¢t want to accept and thought it was just a dream. They gained the courage over time to forgive her killer and come to terms with her loss. Through many court dates and news articles about the wreck they stayed close to God and never forgot what she did to there daughter, but gained enough had the courage to forgive her. This is an example of a process of forgiveness that wasnââ¬â¢t given over night. Forgiveness is many things, but ultimately forgiveness is a choice. Red Badge Of Courage Essays (651 words) - The Red Badge Of Courage
Red Badge of Courage Red Badge of Courage Stephen Crane's literary technique has long been a matter of great interest, analysis, and speculation. In The Red Badge of Courage Crane takes us into the life of a young man named Henry Fleming, who wants to enlist in the United States Army and fight in the war against the South. By using irony, similes, and symbols, to name a few, Crane "paints" a vivid picture of what life was like for the fragile Henry Fleming. He opens our eyes to the vast reasons of separation for Fleming, and why he lived his life so independently. The precarious, vulnerable, and insecure Henry Fleming was isolated from more than just his family and his regiment; he was isolated from himself. As the narrative, The Red Badge of Courage, opens, Henry and his mother are engaged in a quarrel about Henry leaving to join the Army. By going against his mother's wishes and disobeying her, he isolates himself from his family. This isolation is imperative to the way Henry lives his life during his time in the Army. Moral support is something that a family, especially a mother, provides for a child, but because Henry has disassociated himself from his mother, he neglects to receive this. This moral support is needed during the hard times of battle, but when Henry looks for this support, he realizes that he's pushed it away, far out of his life, and that it is almost imperceptible. Thus revealing the first isolation in Henry Fleming's life. During war, a soldier's most important support system is his/her regiment. This is a support system that Henry has, then loses throughout this time period in his life. All through the war Henry questions his courage and bravery. He wonders if he will turn and run when death is looking him in the eyes, or if he will decide to stay and do what he came to do; prove that he is a man and can handle even death itself. During battle several soldiers are wounded earning their"red badge of courage" and Henry's confident, Jim Conklin, dies. Here is where Henry's second isolation, the isolation from his regiment, occurs. The soldiers in the regiment feel a certain pride and respectability from earning their "red badge." Henry didn't earn this sense of pride and respectability because of the abandonment of his fellow soldiers. He felt that his assumption was clearly rectified- he was a coward. Henry Fleming seemed to become the virtuoso of separation, individualism, and isolation. The tension is eased after he mistakenly "earns" his "red badge" from a friend. The internal fears that haunt Henry are mostly created by himself. He is apprehensive of the reaction he will have towards any stimulus thrown out at him, therefore creating a fear that separates and isolates him from not only the rest of his regiment and his family, but himself as well. He is afraid to face reality and see what really makes up Henry Fleming. Throughout the majority of this narrative Henry is torn between the boy he is and the man he wants to be. The man emerges through a brief handshake with the "cheerful soldier." This handshake is the turning point for the value Henry places on himself. The handshake shared between the "cheerful soldier" and Henry, swings him back into the warm community of men. These men, Henry's regiment, can be looked at as the saving grace of Henry's self-confidence. Regardless of the isolation from his family, the isolation from his regiment, and the isolation from himself, Henry matures over the course of the narrative. He becomes unified with his fellow comrades and his regiment, puts the dispute with his mother aside, and faces his fears and doubts. Stephen Crane, author of The Red Badge of Courage summarizes this gradual and significant process with this vivid sentence: "Over the river a golden ray of sun came through the hosts of leaden rain clouds." This sentence, the last sentence in the novel, hits the reader the hardest. It points out that becoming what we want to become, like it did Henry, takes time and continuous effort.

If you do eat your potatoes, I shall be pleased, you will be pleased, your tummy will be pleased.(William Goldman, The Princess Bride. Harcourt, 1973)à I will go home, Bessie decided. People will not leave me in the streets.(Isaac Bashevis Singer, The Key.à The New Yorker, 1970)à Humans need to find a newà planet within 1,000 years to keep the species alive,à Stephen Hawking said in a talk this week. Time,à November 17, 2016) Usage Notes [T]heres simplyà no reason to hold on to shall. The word is peripheral in American English.(Bryan A, Garner,à Garners Modern English Usage, 4th ed. Oxford University Press, 2016) The Traditional Rules There is a traditional textbook ruling that runs as follows. For simple futurity, you use shall after I or we but will after everything else, while, to express determination or command, you use will after I or we but shall after everything else. By these rules, the required forms are We shall finish tonight (simple statement) versus We will finish tonight (expressing determination), but They will finish tonight (simple statement) versus They shall finish tonight (an order). As grammarians never tire of pointing out, these bizarre rules do not accurately describe the real usage of careful speakers at any time or in any place in the history of English, and they are little more than a fantastic invention. If you are one of the handful of speakers for whom these rules now seem completely natural, then by all means go ahead and follow them. But, if you are not, just forget about them, and use your natural forms.Do not try to use shall if the word does not feel entirely natural, and especia lly dont try to use it merely in the hope of sounding more elegant. Doing so will probably produce something that is acceptable to no one.(R.L. Trask, Say What You Mean! A Troubleshooters Guide to English Style and Usage, David R. Godine, 2005) The Hazy Distinction Between Intention and Futurity [T]he distinction between intention and futurity can be hazy, and grammarians of C17 and C18 devised an odd compromise whereby both shall and will could express one or the other, depending on the grammatical person involved. . . . Research by Fries (1925) into the language of English drama from C17 on showed that this division of labor was artificial even in its own time. These paradigms were however enshrined in textbooks of later centuries and still taught a few decades ago. Their neglect is one of the better consequences of abandoning the teaching of grammar in schools.(Pam Peters, The Cambridge Guide to English Usage, Cambridge University Press, 2004)ââ¬â¹ British Uses of Shall and Will British people use I shall/I will and we shall/we will with no difference of meaning in most situations. However, shall is becoming very much less common than will. Shall is not normally used in American English. . . . Shall and will are not only used for giving information about the future. They are also common in offers, promises, orders and similar kinds of interpersonal language use. In these cases, will (or ll) generally expresses willingness, wishes or strong intentions (this is connected with an older use of will to mean wish or want). Shall expresses obligation (like a more direct form of should).(Michael Swan, Practical English Usage, Oxford University Press, 1995)ââ¬â¹ Where Shall Survives In colloquial and indeed all spoken English . . . will is fast displacing shall in all cases in which shall was formerly used and in which we are recommended to use it. . . . It survives chiefly in first person questions, where it usefully distinguishes Shall I open the window? (as an offer or proposal) from Will I need a towel? ( will it be necessary). It is useful that the construction ll stands for both shall and will. (Eric Partridge, Usage and Abusage, edited by Janet Whitcut, W.W. Norton, 1995)ââ¬â¹ AP Style Use shall to express determination: We shall overcome. You and he shall stay. Either shall or will may be used in first-person constructions that do not emphasize determination: We shall hold a meeting. We will hold a meeting. For second- and third-person constructions, use will unless determination is stressed: You will like it. She will not be pleased.(The Associated Press 2015à Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law, Basic Books, 2015) Practice (a) Lets go into the church, _____ we?(b) If you build it, he _____ come.(c) Martha _____ bring the salad. President Obamas First Executive Order
President Obamas First Executive Order Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13489 on Jan. 21, 2009, one day after being sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. To hear the conspiracy theorists describe it, Obamas first executive order officially closed off hisà personal records to the public, especially hisà birth certificate. What did this order actually aim to do? In fact, Obamas first executive order had exactly the opposite goal. Its aim was to shed more light on presidential record, including his own, after eight years of secrecy imposed by former President George W. Bush. What Obamas First Executive Order Really Said Executive orders are official documents, numbered consecutively, through which the President of the United States manages the operations of the federal government.à Presidential executive orders are much like the written orders or instructions issued by the president or CEO of a private-sector company to that companyââ¬â¢s department heads. Starting with George Washingtonà in 1789, all presidents have issued executive orders.à President Franklin D. Roosevelt, still holds the record for executive orders, penning 3,522 of them during his 12 years in office. President Obamas first executive order merely rescinded an earlier executive order severely limiting public access to presidential records after they left office. That now-rescinded executive order, 13233, was signed by then-President George W. Bush on Nov. 1, 2001. It allowed former presidents and even family members to declare executive privilege and block public access to White House records for virtually any reason. Rescinding Bush-Era Secrecy Bushs measure was criticized heavily and challenged in court. The Society of American Archivists called Bushs executive order a complete abnegation of the original 1978 Presidential Records Act. The Presidential Records Act mandates the preservation of presidential records and makes them available to the public. Obama agreed with the criticism. For a long time now, theres been too much secrecy in this city. This administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information but with those who seek it to be known, Obama said after signing the order rescinding the Bush-era measure. The mere fact that you have the legal power to keep something secret does not mean you should always use it. Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency. So Obamas first executive order didnt seek to shut down access to his own personal records, as conspiracy theorists claim. Its goal was exactly the opposite- toà open up White House records to the public. The Authority for Executive Orders Capable of at least changing the ways in which the laws enacted by Congress are applied, presidential executive orders can be controversial. Where does the president get the power to issue them? The U.S. Constitution does not explicitly provide for executive orders. However, Article II, Section 1, Clause 1 of the Constitution mentions relates the term ââ¬Å"executive Powerâ⬠to the presidentââ¬â¢s constitutionally-assigned to ââ¬Å"take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.â⬠Thus, the power to issue executive orders can be interpreted by the courts as a necessary presidential power. The U.S. Supreme Court has held that all executive orders must be supported either by a specific clause of the Constitution or by an act of Congress. The Supreme Court has the authority to block executive orders that it determines to exceed the Constitutional limits of presidential power or involve issues that should be handled through legislation.à As with all other official actions of the legislative or executive branches, executive orders are subject to the process of judicial review by the Supreme Court and can be overturned if found to be unconstitutional in nature or function.à Updated by Robert Longley

Marx and Engels 1848 Communist Manifesto and Marshall Bermans 1982 Essay
Marx and Engels 1848 Communist Manifesto and Marshall Bermans 1982 text on Marx and Modernization - Essay Example This paper illustrates that through an inspiration gathered from The Communist Manifesto, Berman refers to the social and political aspects of modernity as ââ¬Å"a unity of disunityâ⬠. Therefore, Berman tends to illustrate that modernity makes individual to be in a constant state of constant struggle and incongruity, disintegration and renewal, as well as uncertainty and anguish. Equally, this can be identified whereby Marx uses the phrase ââ¬Å"all that is solid melts into airâ⬠, to describe the concept of modernity. As such, Berman tries to use the perpetual experiences of ââ¬Ëdisintegration and renewalââ¬â¢ to point out both the advantages and dangers associated with the modern social life. As such, not only does Berman tries to demonstrate how the structure of domination and power have taken over modernity, but he also describes the existence of prevailing political changes that are essential in the attainment of an effective modern life. Despite the fact that B erman solely relies on The Communist Manifesto as his main theoretic manuscript to illustrate modernity, there are several important inferences that his work presents that should not be overlooked. Notably important, Berman outlines an important factor for modernity by presenting an all-encompassing and dialectical understanding of the efforts and impulses by acting as ââ¬Ëthe developer.ââ¬â¢ As the developer, Berman anticipates discovering both the most creative and destructive possibilities of the modern social life. Thus, for Berman, there are several factors such as demographic transformations, scientific discoveries, mass movements, and industrial upheavals among others that generate modernity. As such, Berman tends to use these socioeconomic factors, together with the changing capitalistic markets as the factors that are responsible for driving change and bringing modernity.

Female, Feminine, Fertility Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Female, Feminine, Fertility - Essay Example In particular, she competes severely with Carla Santini, who was also striving to attain this position. Lola does not manage to beat Carla Santini since Carla Santini is quite clever and convincing. At one point, Lola gives up with the chase, but is later motivated to keep up the fight. She decides to participate in a play for their school where she manages to defeat Carla Santini. Although the two girls had personal differences during the time they were competing for the lead position, they are seen mending their differences by acknowledging each other (Sheldon, 2014). I have, for a long time seen female characters resembling Lola and Carla in that they are determined, brave yet considerate and willing to forgive. Such are the people the society wants whom despite differences in, for example places of work due to competition for a given position, they are willing to work together, relate positively outside jobs and acknowledge each other. Lola is used to show the modern woman whom despite challenges facing her, she should never forget her worth and values. The modern woman should aim high and fight hard to attain her position while remembering that she should maintain positive relationship with other with whom she is battling out with. Competitors need not only be fellow women but could also include men. For instance, there is a stiff battle between men and women with women striving to get their positions in the society. Such female characters would have a positive impact on practically every person. In fact, there is nobody would be harmed by the presence of Lola and Carla in the society. However, men might be harmed by characters like Lola in the society especially due to the determination part of the character. Being determined means that such female characters will never let off the battle with men in striving to

The Commercialization of Extreme Sports (X Sports) Essay -- X Sports
The Commercialization of Extreme Sports (X Sports) ABSTRACT For years, extreme sports had little to nothing in common with each other except for high risk, and an appeal to women and men from the ages of 12 to 34. Entertainment Sports Programming Network (ESPN), realizing this age group was a prime viewing audience, brought together several extreme sports and created yet another commercialized sporting spectacle. Since 1995, this television network has produced the Summer X Games. After these summer productions proved to be successful television and live spectator events, ESPN expanded into the winter extreme sports. The Winter X Games have been produced since 1997. This paper, which commences with the rise of extreme sports, is an historical and sociological analysis of the creation and growth of the ESPN X Games. While these commercialized adventure and extreme sporting events have had some obvious growing pains, both the Summer and Winter X Games have grown into events which annually attract thousands of spectators and viewers while offeri ng fame and a few dollars to their participants. INTRODUCTION One need only take a quick glance at the daily news to discover that society in general is still in a state of constant change (Leonard, 1993). In the United States, this is especially true as the baby boomers begin to age and the new generation comes of age. In particular, social scientists define the emerging generation of youth, which has been labeled the X Generation, as extremists who at times defy both logic and protocol (Terrazas, 1998). Western Art Discussion
Exit Through the Gift Shop is a movie directed by Banksy which is centered around Thierry Guetta ââ¬â Mr. Brain Wash- a Frenchman. Guetta created exhibits of art consisting of many pre-existing prints. Using a computer, he distorted them and probably managed to sell them for some million dollars. Banksyââ¬â¢s film does not show much about Banksy. Rather, he filmed it in a way that takes a look at what factors make contemporary art unfit. This movie is thus not such an interesting one. t is however more educative and can enable one to enhance their artwork if they are keen with the production (Ryzik). A more disappointing aspect of this movie is that Terry seems to dominate the movie although Bankys is supposed to feature more to showcase his movement of the art. Terry must seek to show that Banksy was a London-based infamous graffiti artist who was however never known by people. This situation could thus be seen a big ridicule. Banksy tries to demonstrate that contemporary art needs people with big finances so that they can have access to a large exhibition to market their products besides gaining fame. Thierry cannot be regarded as an artist since he reproduces work which has already being done by other people. he however employs professionals to help him during his work. In conclusion Thierryââ¬â¢s documentary about Banky's excellence in his own career is just a contribution to the work of art especially regarding how one can come up in the art industry and finally excel.

They can focus on the real health problems instead of wasting time letting the patient's fill-up other forms just to check their health background. Normally those records are printed on papers and kept on envelopes or folders. Since such practice can be time-consuming and space-consuming, people have created some innovations with the system and integrate information technology with the use of those records. The product becomes the electronic health record. With the use of electronic gadgets and information technology, the system of storing, retrieving and collecting the data of patients have become faster and easier than the normal health record. It has revolutionized the way hospitals keep the patient data. With the use of sophisticated tools and gadgets, the records are saved digitally and can be shared in various health care locations. They can be transmitted using dif ferent channels like private wired networks, enterprise-wide connections or secured wireless connections. Comparative Essay Between Hamlet and Brave New World
Ryan Kosmayer ENG-4U Ms. S Monday July 22, 2013 Brave New World and Hamlet Comparative Essay In the texts Brave New World and Hamlet, there are two entirely diverse stories that share similar protagonists. Despite being from completely different worlds, Hamlet and John share a lot of things in common. They both face severe alienation from their mothers and from people that attempt to use them. Coincidentally they also both use their friends as a relief to cope with their experiences. With the assistance of Horatio and Helmholtz the protagonists gain the courage to stand up to any adversity that comes at them. One of the most prominent similarities between the two is the alienation they felt from their mothers. John demonstrates this near the end of the novel when he discov ers his mother in is the hospital. In her dying unconscious moments Linda comes to for a moment, but to Johnââ¬â¢s disappointment she says, ââ¬Å"Popà ©! â⬠¦ Oh, I do so like it, I doâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Huxley 179). To which she replied, ââ¬Å"Popà ©!â⬠(Huxley 180). John was infuriated that his mother, in her dying moments, saw Popà © as her comforterââ¬ânot her son. This reveals that John truly is alien among both of the societies. His mother has more compassion for another man, leaving John to feel alone. In addition to the pain Hamlet and John had endured because of their mothers, they both had to overcome the people who intended to use them. For Hamlet this meant suppressing information from the bothersome Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Upon the kingââ¬â¢s request these two friends of Hamlet are sent off in an attempt to relieve Hamletââ¬â¢s sorrow. However Hamlet soon discovers that they have alternative motives. Business Intelligence Free Essays
Business Intelligence (BI) is a set of theories, methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information for business purposes. BI can handle large amounts of information to help identify and develop new opportunities. (https://enterprisetechnologyconsultant. We will write a custom essay sample on Business Intelligence or any similar topic only for you Order Now wordpress.com/2013/02/07/what-is-business-intelligence-bi/) Today, Business Intelligence is one of the most important issues in business firms such as business analysis because business intelligence plays an active role in companiesââ¬â¢ decision making processes. Every day, in companies, from the smallest unit to the largest one, numerous decisions are made in each department. The fastest way to make these decisions is to increase the size of the company from day to day. In other words, most companies use Business Intelligence to access and reach the information necessary to increase their profits further and succeed in their strategies, to store that information, and to store and analyze the stored information. In the past years, companies have been decided on the data obtained by data mining, but technology is getting more and more day by day and the data that we have are continuing to increase. Social media is one of the biggest share of data increase and emerging technology. Every day, every second through channels in social media, people produce and share countless content, such as videos, pictures, music and short stories. ââ¬ËWe are Socialââ¬â¢ is a digital report about Internet use in the world for 2017 as it is every year. In a fast-developing world, companies are demanding faster and more accurate decisions in a competitive environment, and to be able to adapt to change. Therefore, in order for the raw data to be useful information, there was a need for a method to adapt to new technologies and developments, with the exception of old methods, so that Business Intelligence emerged. With the increasing popularity of business intelligence, many professions have formed such as process analysis, process design, business management and data mining. The information that allows them to make quick decisions should pay attention. Also, how to present the information, such as a definable table or report. Technical solutions and architectural designs are mad Data warehouse is designed and data is managed Analyzes are made on the data and the necessary reports are taken It builds infrastructure and performs studies for large data. Useful Info Conversion Process Data Data is raw data that can be quantified, classified and counted with the most general definition. In order for the information to be transformed into information, it is first collected and classified from media such as social media and newspapers. Once classified, the edited and processed data is transformed into useful information. For example, a list is created based on the employeesââ¬â¢ surnames and is stored for later use. Information Transaction processing creates information. When information occurs, unnecessary information is set up. As a result of this arrangement unnecessary information is being taken, companiesââ¬â¢ decision making processes progress more quickly. At the same time information is the answer to questions such as who, where, when, how, what, how many. Information has a much richer content. Besides, there are processes such as formatting and editing in the information, while the data has a scattered structure. For example, a table can be created that analyzes the list sorted by employeesââ¬â¢ surnames and includes only the number of employees, genders, or ages. At this point, the average age of the employees of the company will be revealed, and here we will turn it into information. Knowledge Information wisely transformed with analysis, experimentation and interpretation. The concept of information is a more complex concept than data and informationKnowledge is information that is more specific, specialized, and interpreted than the information that comes from personal knowledge and experience with resources from information accumulation. (135) Knowledge must have a targeted, detailed and easily understandable format. How to answer the question. As a result, if it is desired that the information is useful, it must be communicated to the right person in the right place at the right time. If information is desired to be useful, that information must be related to the desired subject, correct, timely, incomplete, and accessible. Wisdom Wisdom is to act according to information and needs. Data, information and information are the results we have achieved at the end of the completed process. These results can be decided by making logical evaluations. It is the stage of discovering wisdom. ABSTRACT Business intelligence (BI) refers to computer-based techniques used in spotting, digging-out, and analyzing business data, such as sales revenue by products and/or departments, or by associated costs and incomes. BI technologies provide historical, current, and predictive views of business operations. Common functions of business intelligence technologies are reporting, online analytical processing, analytics, data mining, business performance management, benchmarking, text mining, and predictive analytics. Business intelligence aims to support better business decision-making. Thus a BI system can be called a decision support system (DSS). Though the term business intelligence is sometimes used as a synonym for competitive intelligence, because they both support decision making, BI uses technologies, processes, and applications to analyze mostly internal, structured data and business processes while competitive intelligence gathers, analyzes and disseminates information with a topical focus on company competitors. DEFINATION Business intelligence (BI) is the ability of an organization to collect, maintain, and organize knowledge. This produces large amounts of information that can help develop new opportunities. Identifying these opportunities, and implementing an effective strategy, can provide a competitive market advantage and long-term stability. [ The goal of modern business intelligence deployments is to support better business decision-making. Thus a BI system can be called decesion support system(DSS). Though the term business intelligence is sometimes a synonym for competative intelegence(because they both support decision making), BI uses technologies, processes, and applications to analyze mostly internal, structured data and business processes while competitive intelligence gathers, analyzes and disseminates information with a topical focus on company competitors. If understood broadly, business intelligence can include the subset of competitive intelligence. BI is broad category of applications, which include the activities of â⬠¢ decision support systems query and reporting â⬠¢ online analytical processing (OLAP) â⬠¢ statistical analysis, forecasting, and data mining. 2. HISTORY In a 1958 article, IBM researcher Hans peter luhn used the term business intelligence. He defined intelligence as: ââ¬Å"the ability to apprehend the interrelationships of presented facts in such a way as to guide action towards a desired goal. â⬠Business intelligence as it is under stood today is said to have evolved from the decision support systems that began in the 1960s and developed throughout the mid-1980s. DSS originated in the computer-aided models created to assist with decesion making and planning. From DSS, data warehouses, Executive information system, OLAP and business intelligence came into focus beginning in the late 80s. In 1989, Howard Dresner proposed ââ¬Å"business intelligenceâ⬠as an umbrella term to describe ââ¬Å"concepts and methods to improve business decision making by using fact-based support systems. â⬠It was not until the late 1990s that this usage was widespread. 3. BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND DATA WAREHOUSING Often BI applications use data gathered from a data ware house or data mart. However, not all data warehouses are used for business intelligence, nor do all business intelligence applications require a data warehouse. To distinguish between the concepts of business intelligence and data warehouses, Research often defines business intelligence in one of two ways: Using a broad defination: ââ¬Å"Business Intelligence is a set of methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information used to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making. When using this definition, business intelligence also includes technologies such as data integration, data quality, data warehousing, master data management, text and content analytics, and many others that the market sometimes lumps into the information management segment. Therefore, Forrester refers to data preparation and data usage as two separate, but closely linked segments of the business intelligence architectura l stack. Forrester defines the latter, narrower business intelligence market as, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ referring to just the top layers of the BI architectural stack such as reporting, analytics and dashbord. 4. BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE TOOLS Operational Data Source: Business Intelligence system collects data from various sources including operation database, ERP, legacy apps, external database and etc. ETL tools (Extract, Transform, Load) are used to pull data from source database, transform the data so that it is compatible with the data warehouse and then load it into data warehouse. A Data Warehouse is a ââ¬Å"Subject-Oriented, Integrated, Time-Variant, Nonvolatile collection of data in support of decision makingâ⬠. Data Warehouses tend to have these distinguishing features: (1) Use a subject oriented dimensional data model; (2) Contain publishable data from potentially multiple sources and; (3) Contain integrated reporting tools. A data mart is a repository of data gathered from operational data and other sources that is designed to serve a particular community of knowledge workers. The data may derive from an enterprise-wide database or data warehouse or be more specialized. ARCHITECTURE OF BI 5. SUCCESS FACTOR OF IMPLEMENTATION Before implementing a BI solution, it is worth taking different factors into consideration before proceeding. According to Kimball et al. , these are the three critical areas that you need to assess within your organization before getting ready to do a BI project: 1. The level of commitment and sponsorship of the project from senior management 2. The level of business need for creating a BI implementation 3. The amount and quality of business data available . 1: BUSINESS SPONSERSHIP The commitment and sponsorship of senior management is according to Kimball et al. , the most important criteria for assessment. This is because having strong management backing helps overcome shortcomings elsewhere in the project. However, as Kimball et al. state: ââ¬Å"even the most elegantly designed DW/BI system cannot overcome a lack of business [management] sponsorshipâ⬠. It is important that management per sonnel who participate in the project have a vision and an idea of the benefits and drawbacks of implementing a BI system. The best business sponsor should have organizational clout and should be well connected within the organization. It is ideal that the business sponsor is demanding but also able to be realistic and supportive if the implementation runs into delays or drawbacks. The management sponsor also needs to be able to assume accountability and to take responsibility for failures and setbacks on the project. Support from multiple members of the management ensures the project does not fail if one person leaves the steering group. However, having many managers work together on the project can also mean that there are several different interests that attempt to pull the project in different directions, such as if different departments want to put more emphasis on their usage. This issue can be countered by an early and specific analysis of the business areas that benefit the most from the implementation. All stakeholders in project should participate in this analysis in order for them to feel ownership of the project and to find common ground. Another management problem that should be encountered before start of implementation is if the business sponsor is overly aggressive. If the management individual gets carried away by the possibilities of using BI and starts wanting the DW or BI implementation to include several different sets of data that were not included in the original planning phase. However, since extra implementations of extra data may add many months to the original plan, itââ¬â¢s wise to make sure the person from management is aware of his actions. 5. 2: BUSINESS NEEDS Because of the close relationship with senior management, another critical thing that must be assessed before the project begins is whether or not there is a business need and whether there is a clear business benefit by doing the implementation. [15] The needs and benefits of the implementation are sometimes driven by competition and the need to gain an advantage in the market. Another reason for a business-driven approach to implementation of BI is the acquisition of other organizations that enlarge the original organization it can sometimes be beneficial to implement DW or BI in order to create more oversight. Companies that implement BI are often large, multinational organizations with diverse subsidiaries. A well-designed BI solution provides a consolidated view of key business data not available anywhere else in the organization, giving management visibility and control over measures that otherwise would not exist. 5. 3: AMOUNT AND QUALITY OF AVAILABLE DATA Without good data, it does not matter how good the management sponsorship or business-driven motivation is. Without proper data, or with too little quality data, any BI implementation fails. Before implementation it is a ood idea to do data profiling. This analysis identifies the ââ¬Å"content, consistency and structure â⬠of the data. This should be done as early as possible in the process and if the analysis shows that data is lacking, put the project on the shelf temporarily while the IT department figures out how to properly collect data. When planning for business data and business intelligence requirements, it is always ad visable to consider specific scenarios that apply to a particular organization, and then select the business intelligence features best suited for the scenario. Often, scenarios revolve around distinct business processes, each built on one or more data sources. These sources are used by features that present that data as information to knowledge workers, who subsequently act on that information. The business needs of the organization for each business process adopted correspond to the essential steps of business intelligence. These essential steps of business intelligence includes but not limited to: 1. Go through business data sources in order to collect needed data 2. Convert business data to information and present appropriately 3. Query and analyze data 4. Act on those data collected 6. USER ASPECT Some considerations must be made in order to successfully integrate the usage of business intelligence systems in a company. Ultimately the BI system must be accepted and utilized by the users in order for it to add value to the organization. If the usability of the system is poor, the users may become frustrated and spend a considerable amount of time figuring out how to use the system or may not be able to really use the system. If the system does not add value to the users? mission, they simply donââ¬â¢t use it. To increase user acceptance of a BI system, it can be advisable to consult business users at an early stage of the DW/BI lifecycle, for example at the requirements gathering phase. This can provide an insight into the business process and what the users need from the BI system. There are several methods for gathering this information, such as questionnaires and interview sessions. When gathering the requirements from the business users, the local IT department should also be consulted in order to determine to which degree it is possible to fulfill the businessââ¬â¢s needs based on the available data. Taking on a user-centered approach throughout the design and development stage may further increase the chance of rapid user adoption of the BI system. Besides focusing on the user experience offered by the BI applications, it may also possibly motivate the users to utilize the system by adding an element of competition. Kimball suggests implementing a function on the business intellegence website where reports on system usage can be found. By doing so, managers can see how well their departments are doing and compare themselves to others and this may spur them to encourage their staff to utilize the BI system even more. In a 2007 article, H. J. Watson gives an example of how the competitive element can act as an incentive. ] Watson describes how a large call centre implemented performance dashboards for all call agents, with monthly incentive bonuses tied to performance metrics. Also, agents could compare their performance to other team members. The implementation of this type of performance measurement and competition significantly improved agent performance. BI chances of success can be improved by involving senior management to help make BI a part of the organizational culture, and by providing the users with necessary tools, training, and support. Training encourages more people to use the BI application. Providing user support is necessary to maintain the BI system and resolve user problems. User support can be incorporated in many ways, for example by creating a website. The website should contain great content and tools for finding the necessary information. Furthermore, helpdesk support can be used. The help desk can be manned by power users or the DW/BI project team. . MARKET PLACE There are a number of business intelligence vendors, often categorized into the remaining independent ââ¬Å"pure-playâ⬠vendors and consolidated ââ¬Å"megavendorsâ⬠that have entered the market through a recent trend of acquisitions in the BI industry. Some companies adopting BI software decide to pick and choose from different product offer ings (best-of-breed) rather than purchase one comprehensive integrated solution (full-service). 7. 1:INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC Specific considerations for business intelligence systems have to be taken in some sectors such as government, banking, hospitality, hotel chain. The information collected by banking institutions and analyzed with BI software must be protected from some groups or individuals, while being fully available to other groups or individuals. Therefore BI solutions must be sensitive to those needs and be flexible enough to adapt to new regulations and changes to existing law. 8. SEMI-STRUCTURED OR UNSTRUCTURED DATA Businesses create a huge amount of valuable information in the form of e-mails, memos, notes from call-centers, news, user groups, chats, reports, web-pages, presentations, image-files, video-files, and marketing material and news. According to Merrill Lynch, more than 85% of all business information exists in these forms. These information types are called either semi-structured or unstructured data. However, organizations often only use these documents once. The management of semi-structured data is recognized as a major unsolved problem in the information technology industry. According to projections from Gartner (2003), white collar workers spend anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of their time searching, finding and assessing unstructured data. BI uses both structured and unstructured data, but the former is easy to search, and the latter contains a large quantity of the information needed for analysis and decision making. Because of the difficulty of properly searching, finding and assessing unstructured or semi-structured data, organizations may not draw upon these vast reservoirs of information, which could influence a particular decision, task or project. This can ultimately lead to poorly informed decision making. Therefore, when designing a business intelligence/DW-solution, the specific problems associated with semi-structured and unstructured data must be accommodated for as well as those for the structured data 8. 1: SEMI-STRUCTURED VS UNSTRUCTURED DATA Unstructured and semi-structured data have different meanings depending on their context. In the context of relational database systems, unstructured data cannot be stored in predictably ordered colums and rows. One type of unstructured data is typically stored in a BLOB(binary large object), a catch-all data type available in most relation database management systems. Unstructured data may also refer to irregularly or randomly repeated column patterns that vary from row to row within each file or document. Many of these data types, however, like e-mails, word processing text files, PPTs, image-files, and video-files conform to a standard that offers the possibility of metadata. Metadata can include information such as author and time of creation, and this can be stored in a relational database. Therefore it may be more accurate to talk about this as semi-structured documents or data, but no specific consensus seems to have been reached. Unstructured data can also simply be the knowledge that business users have about future business trends. Business forecasting naturally aligns with the BI system because business users think of their business in aggregate terms. Capturing the business knowledge that may only exist in the minds of business users provides some of the most important data points for a complete BI solution. 8. 2: PROBLEMS WITH SEMI-STRUCTURED OR UNSTRUCTURED DATA There are several challenges to developing BI with semi-structured data. According to Inmon ; Nesavich, some of those are: 1. Physically accessing unstructured textual data ââ¬â unstructured data is stored in a huge variety of formats. 2. Terminologyââ¬â Among researchers and analysts, there is a need to develop a standardized terminology. 3. Volume of data ââ¬â As stated earlier, up to 85% of all data exists as semi-structured data. Couple that with the need for word-to-word and semantic analysis. 4. Searchability of unstructured textual data ââ¬â A simple search on some data, e. g. apple, results in links where there is a reference to that precise search term. (Inmon ; Nesavich, 2008)[25] gives an example: ââ¬Å"a search is made on the term felony. In a simple search, the term felony is used, and everywhere there is a reference to felony, a hit to an unstructured document is made. But a simple search is crude. It does not find references to crime, arson, murder, embezzlement, vehicular homicide, and such, even though these crimes are types of felonies. â⬠8. 3: THE USE OF MATADATA To solve problems with searchability and assessment of data, it is necessary to know something about the content.
